Looking Ahead to the 2026/27 Season
As preparations continue for the 2026/27 season, Ngongotahā Bowling Club is looking ahead with a clear focus on building a strong future while continuing to provide a welcoming, enjoyable, and competitive environment for everyone involved.
The Club would like to acknowledge and sincerely thank immediate Past President Char Beckett for her outstanding leadership, dedication, and countless hours of service. Her commitment has helped strengthen the club and leaves a solid foundation for the season ahead.
The Board is also pleased that Char will continue her leadership journey as Vice President, where she will provide ongoing support to President Drew Crowhurst, the Board, and the wider club. Her experience and commitment will continue to play an important role as the club moves forward.
This season, the Board has adopted the theme "Reset and Refresh."
Reset is about getting the fundamentals right. Strong governance, clear communication, well-run tournaments, sound financial management, and maintaining our facilities to a high standard are the foundations of a successful club. By focusing on these core areas, we can continue providing a positive experience for members, volunteers, sponsors, and visitors alike.
Refresh is about building on those strong foundations by listening to our members, modernising where appropriate, and creating new opportunities both on and off the green. It means finding better ways to engage with our members, strengthening our presence in the community, and ensuring Ngongotahā Bowling Club continues to evolve while remaining true to the values that have shaped it for generations.
One of the first outcomes of this refreshed approach is a new-look playing programme developed around what members told us they wanted most — more green time and more opportunities to play.
The 2026/27 programme features four new Midweek Optional Triples tournaments, providing additional competitive and social playing opportunities throughout the season. We're also delighted to introduce a new two-day partnership event with Lakeview Golf & Country Club, bringing together two proud local sporting clubs in what we hope will become a highlight of the annual calendar.
Adding further strength to the programme is the introduction of a new two-day Classic tournament, complementing our existing events and creating an even stronger calendar for members and visiting bowlers alike. Together, these additions provide greater variety, increased participation opportunities, and even more reasons to get involved at the club.
While there's plenty happening off the green, our commitment to success on it remains just as strong. Ngongotahā Bowling Club has a proud tradition of competitive bowls, and we remain focused on supporting players of all abilities, encouraging development, and fostering a culture of sportsmanship, enjoyment, and excellence.
Looking to the future, one of the Board's key strategic priorities is progressing plans to upgrade one of our greens to an artificial surface. This important investment will improve playing consistency, reduce ongoing maintenance requirements, increase year-round usability, and strengthen our ability to host high-quality tournaments and events. It is a significant step in ensuring the long-term sustainability and success of our club.
None of this would be possible without the dedication of our volunteers, members, sponsors, and supporters. Their passion, generosity, and willingness to contribute continue to make Ngongotahā Bowling Club the special place it is today.
As the new season approaches, there is a genuine sense of optimism around the club. With a refreshed programme, clear direction, and a shared commitment to continuous improvement, we look forward to welcoming returning members, meeting new faces, and working together to make the 2026/27 season one to remember.
